This spring, I had the incredible opportunity to intern at MarsAuto, a leading company in autonomous trucking, in the bustling business district of Gangnam, Seoul, South Korea. As a junior majoring in International Business with a concentration in Supply Chain, this internship was a pivotal experience that allowed me to immerse myself in the innovative world of self-driving trucks and adapt to a dynamic international work environment. MarsAuto is at the forefront of developing autonomous trucking technology, aiming to revolutionize the logistics and transportation industry. Located in the Gangnam district, the company sits in the heart of Seoul’s business hub, surrounded by cutting-edge technology firms and bustling corporate activity. My role as a Business Development Intern was multifaceted, combining elements of design, research, and client interaction.

During my internship, my tasks were diverse and engaging. I utilized Figma for design projects, helping to visualize and refine business strategies and presentations. One of my primary responsibilities was conducting research on expanding MarsAuto’s market reach into the United States. This involved analyzing market trends, identifying potential partnerships, and understanding regulatory landscapes. Additionally, I represented MarsAuto in client meetings and at the KMAT (Korean Mobility and Autonomous Technology) conference, where I had the chance to network with industry leaders and showcase our innovative solutions. One of the highlights of my internship was successfully presenting our market research findings, which were well-received by the leadership team and have since been integrated into the company’s strategic plans. However, navigating a work environment where I didn’t speak the common language was a significant challenge. Despite this, I found that my adaptability and willingness to learn helped me overcome language barriers and integrate smoothly into the team. Working within the strict and hierarchical nature of Korean workplace culture was initially daunting. Still, it taught me valuable lessons about respect, discipline, and the importance of clear communication. These experiences not only enriched my professional skills but also broadened my cultural understanding.

Through this internship, I gained insights into the field of autonomous technology and the business strategies required to propel such innovations. I learned about the complexities of entering new markets and the meticulous planning needed to navigate international regulations. Personally, this experience enhanced my adaptability, resilience, and ability to thrive in diverse environments. I realized the importance of cultural competence and the value of stepping out of my comfort zone to achieve professional growth. Building on the knowledge and skills acquired during my time at MarsAuto, I am excited to embark on a summer internship with Conagra. In this new role, I plan to leverage my international experience to contribute to global supply chain strategies and further develop my expertise in international business. This next step is a crucial part of my journey towards a career in global logistics and supply chain management. Interning at MarsAuto in Seoul was an experience that provided me with invaluable professional and personal growth. The challenges I faced and the successes I achieved have prepared me well for future plans. As I continue my academic and professional journey, I am eager to apply the lessons learned and embrace new opportunities with the same enthusiasm and dedication.
